This year (the 2000/2001 season (September-September), we performed 487 dances in public (cf 597 last year) from 8 different morris traditions, 19 of which we danced 10 or more times each. There was a total of a total of 59 different set dances in our repertoire, including dances done at ales and the like which we hadn't actually practised!. The increase is partly due to our having danced out on Thursdays through the Summer instead of practice nights every other week.
This chart does not list 25 other Cotswold Morris set dances which we performed fewer than 5 times in public in the same dance season; nor does it take account of performances of rapper sword dances, or jigs performed by individual side members. (Ilott's Praise, being a jig for 3 or 5 dancers has been included in the main Chart this year.)
No "new" dance appears in this year's Chart, only the reappearance of some "old favourites". Shame!
The "Tradition" column is merely a convenient handle, to identify the style in which we perform the dance; many of the above dances are "all our own work". For "Ascott", read "Bristol Morris Men’s Ascott style", and so on.
